In an interview, Spielberg stated that he put in his black-and-white film about the holocaust one colorful thing- a girl in a red coat- to show that what was going to happen to the Jewish people was, in a sense, known by all nations, but nothing was done to stop this. The color red was to represent a bloodstain.
Along with the director's view, many people have their own ideas about the girl in the red coat. What are some ideas you guys have?
